Bimodal perception of spectrum compressed speech

چکیده
In this paper, the results of both normal-hearing, and profoundly hearing-impaired adults, tested with spectrum compressed speech via the modified chirp-z algorithm, with and without visual stimuli, are reported. Ten normal-hearing adult listeners and three profoundly hearingimpaired adult listeners were asked to identify nonsense syllables presented auditorily and bimodally (audition and vision) via video tape in two conditions: lowpass filtered or unprocessed, and spectrum compressed. The lowpass filtered and spectrum com-pressed speech occupies the same spectrum width of 840 Hz; at 900 Hz and above, the attenuation is at least 60 dB. The spectrum compression is performed by means of a modified chirp-z algorithm, and is described in this paper. The testing results are significant and are reported in this paper.

Speech Perception and Localisation with SCORE Bimodal: A Loudness Normalisation Strategy for Combined Cochlear Implant and Hearing Aid Stimulation
A significant fraction of newly implanted cochlear implant recipients use a hearing aid in their non-implanted ear. SCORE bimodal is a sound processing strategy developed for this configuration, aimed at normalising loudness perception and improving binaural loudness balance. Speech perception performance in quiet and noise and sound localisation ability of six bimodal listeners were measured w...

Objectives: Most of the studies performed on aging and auditory system have historically focused on speech perception disorders in elderly people. According to studies, speech discrimination disorders in aged people usually result from auditory temporal processing impairment. Our study was done to determine the ability of aged people to discriminate time compressed speech. Methods & Material...
متن کاملContributions of Electric and Acoustic Hearing to Bimodal Speech and Music Perception
Cochlear implant (CI) users have difficulty understanding speech in noisy listening conditions and perceiving music. Aided residual acoustic hearing in the contralateral ear can mitigate these limitations. The present study examined contributions of electric and acoustic hearing to speech understanding in noise and melodic pitch perception. Data was collected with the CI only, the hearing aid (...
متن کاملThe Benefits of Bimodal Aiding on Extended Dimensions of Speech Perception: Intelligibility, Listening Effort, and Sound Quality
The benefits of combining a cochlear implant (CI) and a hearing aid (HA) in opposite ears on speech perception were examined in 15 adult unilateral CI recipients who regularly use a contralateral HA. A within-subjects design was carried out to assess speech intelligibility testing, listening effort ratings, and a sound quality questionnaire for the conditions CI alone, CIHA together, and HA alo...
متن کاملPerception of Sung Speech in Bimodal Cochlear Implant Users
Combined use of a hearing aid (HA) and cochlear implant (CI) has been shown to improve CI users' speech and music performance. However, different hearing devices, test stimuli, and listening tasks may interact and obscure bimodal benefits. In this study, speech and music perception were measured in bimodal listeners for CI-only, HA-only, and CI + HA conditions, using the Sung Speech Corpus, a d...
